Calligraphy Room Decor D.I.Y.

In case you didn't know...I am a total sucker for creativity. I love to be artsy, am obsessed with calligraphy, and love to create new things! If you handed me a project and said I could do anything I wanted to do with it, you would get it back and probably see that my imagination went wild and that simple project had a giant transformation (a whole other level of fanciness)! The thing that I most enjoy when I am designing something, is finding inspiration and recreating it in my own way! Inspiration is everywhere, but today, my inspiration was the internet. For this project all I did was find a picture online, thought it was amazing, and tried to recreate it! I had so much fun doing it (and thought it turned out pretty well) that I wanted to share with you how you can create your very own Calligraphy Room Decor and use your creative side!

The things you need are simple...

  1. a brown bag (you can get one from Starbucks, Trader Joes, Target, etc)
  2. a calligraphy alphabet (you can find one online)
  3. something to color with (acrylic paints, watercolor paints, pastels, etc)
  4. paint brushes (only if you are using some sort of paint)
  5. a pencil (any pencil lying around the house)
  6. a black pen (a flare pen, a ballpoint pen, a marker, etc)

The first thing that you start with is your brown bag.

Tear the front part of the bag so that your have a full sheet of paper. Tear along the folds because it makes it much easier.

Once you tear your paper it's time to pick a quote, saying, verse, or movie line that you want to write. There are no limits! You can write anything you feel like writing.

Use your calligraphy alphabet to trace or copy your lettering with a pencil. If you share my love for calligraphy, you may not have to use the calligraphy alphabet. I use mine as a reference guide so that everything looks perfect!

I used the quote "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I'm possible"  by Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn is one of my biggest role models! She had the most beautiful heart. She always put everyone else's needs before she worried about her own! Not only was she a dancer, a singer and an actress, she had the most AMAZING fashion sense. The best part that she travelled around the world bringing attention to children's needs in third world countries and to those who were less fortunate than her! I mean...come on! She truly is one of the most incredible people EVER!

Once you copy your wording, you trace over the lettering with black pen. True calligraphy uses calligraphy pens and nibs...but for this project you can just use a regular pen.

After you finished tracing the lettering, you can paint over some of the words to add color. I love this part because there are so many things you can do with your paints! I kept it really, really simple this time, but other times I have gone all out with my paints!

When you've finished, you can hang it anywhere! SERIOUSLY! ANYWHERE! You can hang it in you room, put it on your desk, or even put it in your school locker! There are so many things that you can do with just a brown bag, a couple of paints, and a pen! Have fun with it! Be creative!

I love how cute this looks and how easy it is! It may take some practice at first, but once you get the hang of is easier than baking a cake (although...baking a cake isn't that easy). I hope you all love it! Just remember to find an inspiration and let your expressive side take over! Let me know if you did it and how it turned out (post a comment y'all)! Love you all!
