Good Morning 2016!

Hello everyone!

I seriously cannot believe that it is 2016! We are now entering a new chapter of our lives and have the opportunity to discover beautiful things about the world and ourselves! I am so excited to enter this New Year and can't wait to spend it with you all!

Personally, I am a huge morning person! I love waking up feeling refreshed and excited to start my day! I love the fact that I am able to spend quiet, quality time with myself and Jesus! Mornings truly are my favorite and this is just a little routine that helps me and hopefully will help you feel confident and ready to take on the New Year!

I love waking up early! A good wake-up time for me is around 7:00am. Waking up this early means that you have to sacrifice late nights and GO TO BED AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE! This makes your mind alert, focused, refreshed, and more active! Going to bed early and waking up early actually puts you in a happy, fun, and energetic mood! It is sooooo much better for our bodies and will actually help us in school, sports, and other things that are mentally demanding! I always set my alarm with something else besides my phone or a digital device (like my old fashioned alarm clock.)

When you wakeup, immediately make your bed, (which is a life skill that I am still working on) pick up your room, and wash your face. Even though these little things seem pointless, they will actually make a big difference in the way you live your life! I try my best not to look on any social media...but...sometimes...I just can't resist checking my feed on Instagram.

After I make my bed, pick up my room, and wash my face, I love to do a little work out. Even though I dance for 2 or more hours a day, I still discipline myself every morning to either go for a run or do crunches, sit-ups, push-ups, and stretch out my body. As growing teens and pre-teens we need to keep our bodies in shape! Try making a little daily exercise journal and map out your exercise per day! Write down your workout goals and try to meet them. When we work out in the morning our bodies will wake themselves up and tell our brains to get ready for the day!

I usually do my morning workout in under 20 minutes so it doesn't take up to much time. When I have finished getting dressed, I will go downstairs and begin to make breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so you have to make sure it is a healthy and hearty choice! I have a few favorite breakfast choices:  a bowl of oatmeal with lots of fresh fruit and nuts on it, eggs with cheese and spinach, a smoothie with greens and protein powder, toast with peanut butter topped with sliced bananas, or avocado toast with fried egg! The options for a good, healthy, and substantial breakfast are limitless! When we have something in the morning that is coated with sugar or we just don't eat anything at all, we are putting our bodies at risk! We are not giving our bodies the nutrients and energy boost it needs so it can shut down and get sleepy. So it is crucial to have a big healthy breakfast!

I also love to drink tea in the morning! Black tea, herbal tea, fruity name it, I will drink it! Drinking hot tea with lemon and honey is the BEST! It always seems to calm my mind and refresh my body. Some teas (like green tea) have been proven to help you wake up and make your mind more alert...and the caffeine doesn't hurt:)! Basically, I think tea should be an essential to every morning routine!

During the process of eating breakfast and drinking my tea, I will read my bible and devotional. My favorite devotional is "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. It is a 365 day devotional (kid and adult versions are available) and truly is my most favorite way to spend quality time with Jesus in the morning!

If you want to join me in becoming a morning person and meeting your 2016 goals I suggest following these simple steps:

1. go to bed early and wake up early 2. make your bed, pick up your room, and wash your face 3. carve out time to workout 4. make a healthy breakfast 5. have a cup of tea 6. spend some time with Jesus

And there you have it...6 simple steps to get your 2016 started off right! I for sure will be following this routine and hope you all will too! This is your year...have the most amazing mornings friends!
